Ali Steers, MA, CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist with almost a decade of experience working with children with complex communication needs. She knew she wanted to be an SLP at the ripe old age of 14 and set her sights on just that, attending San Diego State University for both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. She graduated in 2007 with her MA in Speech-Language Pathology and completed the first several years of her career obtaining foundational training and experience in one-to-one service delivery, working primarily in the areas of early intervention with children with autism spectrum disorders. Parent/caregiver training was an integral part of Ali’s first career experience and has remained at the forefront of her focus. She witnessed the immense amount of progress a child was capable of attaining when parents were active participants in the therapeutic progress. Following this experience, Ali and her husband decided to take a break from the rat-race of Los Angeles and spent a year on the Carribbean island of St. Thomas where Ali was employed by the public school system of the USVI. Despite the idyllic scenery, this proved to be a challenging professional year for Ali as she realized how underserved and underfunded the individuals on the island were. Upon returning to the “mainland,” Ali took a position at CHIME Charter School in Woodland Hills, a fully inclusive K-8 campus. The rest, as they say, is history. On a personal note, Adie and Ali were persuaded to publish the curriculum when Ali was 6 months pregnant with her first child.. Units 10, 12 and 13 were revised and rewritten with baby Rex William on her lap while she was home on maternity leave. Navigating motherhood, a new business, a position at CHIME, and private clients has been challenging and Ali is so thankful to have her supportive husband, Ryan (CLC’s business manager) and well-organized business partner, Adie, to assist her with these many roles. Ali currently manages her own private SLP practice in Agoura Hills, CA
